Solid Western Red Cedar Construction

Downy Woodpecker This birdhouse is constructed with Premium Western Red Cedar. Western Red Cedar has excellent insulating properties, is naturally durable, and is resistant to moisture, decay and insect damage. It has a pleasant and unmistakeable aroma.  Unfinished cedar has a richly textured grain with colors ranging from mellow ambers, reddish cinnamons and rich sienna browns, making each birdhouse unique and one of a kind.

Designed Specifically for the Downy Woodpecker

Designed specifically for the Downy Woodpecker, this birdhouse has 1-1/4” diameter hole to entice the Downy Woodpecker.  The hole is large enough for the this bird, yet small enough to keep out predator birds such as starlings and sparrows.

Where To Hang The Birdhouse

Ideally, the Woodpecker Birdhouse should be hung in a partially shaded area that does not have too much activity.  In a hot environment, the opening of the birdhouse should be facing North or East, which will help to minimize the afternoon heat.

This birdhouse should be hung between 6 and 20 feet above ground.

A Predator Guard is Highly Recommended

Installing a predator guard to the entrance of the Downy Woodpecker house is highly recommended.  The predator guard will offer much needed protection for the birds' eggs as it will stave off raccoons, squirrels and predatory birds.

Birdhouse Will Protect the Birds' Eggs

BetterBird's Downey Woodpecker Birdhouse has two ventilation holes that will regulate the temperature inside. The sloped roof and overhang along with the drainage slots on the will keep water from pooling on the bottom. These features will protect the birds' eggs.  The grooved slots on the inside of the entrance will make it easier for the nestlings to climb out when the time comes.

Easy to Clean

When it comes time to clean it out, this birdhouse is designed for easy access.  Simply turn the latch and the front cover will open.

Natural Design

Bird don't know the difference between design types, so long as the dimensions are suitable to their species, they will use it to nest in.  This is why we created this bird house.  The natural design is simple, yet still has all of the natural features of the beautiful Western Red Cedar and will blend in to your environment.

Built to Last

With the solid construction and Premium Western Red Cedar, BetterBird's birdhouses are constructed to last for years!

Each Birdhouse is Unique

Please note that when you order a hand crafted cedar birdhouse from BetterBirds.com, the product that you receive will be unique. The wood grain will differ from the picture on our website as cedar is a natural organic product and no two pieces are the same. Variations in the wood color, grain, knots and texture will occur on each product. We do not consider these differences to be defects as they are natural occurrences in the wood grain which can be quite beautiful!
