2. Buy
a birdhouse
Putting a birdhouse in
your yard provides the birds with a place
to nest and raise a family.
Before you decide on which bird house to
buy, you should be aware that there
are many designs available that are
unsuitable for the birds. An
unsuitable birdhouse might not
attract birds, may attract bird types that
you do not want in your yard, and they may
actually be harmful. The key
to a good birdhouse is having one that will
protect the birds'nest and birds'
eggs.
The following are important factors to
consider before purchasing a birdhouse:
- the dimensions of your house, including
entrance hole size and floor
size
- a sloped and overhanging roof
- appropriate ventilation and drainage
holes
- being able to open the house
easily
- not having a perch
- being made from a natural
organic wood, such as Western Red
Cedar
Better Birds hand
crafts birdhouses according to
the dimensions established by
the US Department of the
Interior. We adhere to these
standards to ensure that the birdhouse is
both safe and will attract the type
of bird you wish to nest.
